PRESIDENTS DAY 2019
PRESIDENTS DAY 2019 - Mike Parkes is this years President - details to be announced later - Sunday 11th August 2019
PRESIDENTS DAY 2018 with Mal Croson in charge was a great day. The evening before we had been entertained by Melstrum ukuele band making another visit, this time raising money for AGE UK. They really are a great crowd, and the audience easily showed their appreciation. [photos in gallery]
The weather gave us a fright on Sunday morning with a steady rain - not what we have been used to. However by the time we were ready to play it had cleared and four rinks enjoyed 18 ends bowling. Visitors aplenty including Adie and Kath Lloyd, and Marcia and Colin Dunstone, not the first time they have played on our green. They were representing Friends of English Bowling at the National Championships but found time to come over to us. Adie was President Bowls England 2014 and Marcia 2015. As the President had suggested Fancy Dress was an option to greys - there was a varied selection of attire. [see photos in Gallery]. We played a 'spider' with 'nearest to the edge of the green bowling crosswise with £10 to win. The winner was Jo Abbott despite several trying to push her quite small wood off the edge where it had come to rest. After the game Dave and brother Ken Laker set to and cooked the 'barbie' - what a fab spread too. Lots of fun and laughter from one and all. Thanks to everyone who came. Thanks to all who helped.
Congrats to Mal who was enjoying a second term.
This is what sport,- bowls in particular is about, good healthy exercise in the fresh air in good company. Any age from school to pensioner. We all want to win but we all love bowls more.
The Club competitions are in their semi finals stages and we look forward to the finals weekend soon. We also have another Gala to look forward to at the club, a Triples this time taking place on 2nd September. All teams are booked in and looking forward to the competition.
Anyone interested in coming along to see what MARKO is all about is very welcome.
