Covid 19 - The gradual re awakening of the Market Overton Bowls Club peaked Saturday18th July with fourteen bowlers competing in a mens and ladies singles competition starting at 1 pm.

A warm afternoon meant good bowling, some social activity with the large doors open  into the main hall only to access the second bar counter. Our normal catering was replaced by bags of crisps and wrapped chocolate bars. Thanks to a super team the green continues to flourish.

Jonny Abbott was winner of the mens, with Jack Warner runner up, Liz Dyer winner of the ladies and Annette Oliver runner up.

It was a sad day when the doors and gates were closed for lockdown but there has still been lots of fun via competitions on line, a virtual VE day, and a variety of flags flown at the clubhous e. Regular messages have kept everybody in touch.

As soon as allowed, using a booking system and with due care regarding timing etc and no changing facilities, casual clothes have been adopted, and members appeared slowly  for roll ups.  As the advice eased the next step was a 'Covid 19 Pairs competition' won by Richard and Lorna Lambert..

Thanks to even more relaxation of the lockdown we now have in place a Monday evening 'League' among ourselves , 'Chummy nights' have returned on Thursdays, and a series of competitions over the coming weeks. Care has been taken to abide by the Government advice all the way especially social distancing and hygiene with strict control of cleaning the equipment..

None of this can make up for the dreadful disappointment in our 75th celebration year requiring cancellation of  our engagements with bowlers from all over the country but there is always 2021. Such is the spirit at the club that we are thankful to have such a good group of members who have supported 'Marko' all the way through and are now 'making the best of it'.
