Market Overton Bowls Club
Update: The greens are fantastic - thanks to our contractor Richard Shepherd, and our Greenkeeper Mal Croson and his team headed by Jeannie Hutton, our thanks to Gordon Corby, Eddie Owen, Bruce Acock, Brian Abbott, Richard Lambert, all who are helping this year in particular due to Mal's current hip issue.
Monday evening 20th May it was great to see all 6 rinks being used as both the Harriers and Tornadoes Stamford League !! Division teams were playing at home.
Many good things ahead - sorry we had to cancel the McGoo night but we are looking forward to a good day with the Friends of Bowls England who are playing here Wednesday 12th June. Rumour has it Tony Allcock is making a rare appearance - just for fun!
We have some new members and we are pleased to welcome them and they all seem to have fitted very well into our small community.
Chummy nights we still have the chip van call so a good way to spend an evening.
At last the 2019 outdoor season has begun and 25 Market Overton bowling members arrived for the Captains v Presidents game on Sunday 14th April. The green is looking wonderful thanks to the care of our contractor in the winter and greenkeepr Mal Croson and his team of helpers who have been painting and cleaning everything.
Scores were not really important as everybody was on a learning curve playing outdoor for the first tim,e this year but the result was 63 to the Captains team and 50 to the Presidents. Unfortunately this years President Mike Parkes was unable to be present due to family commitments therefore Richard Lambert who is Club Captain was assisted by Junior vice President Jonny Abbott.
We had 4 rinks playing, 3 triples and one rinks. There were two wins on each and the winning rink receiving the Marko leather bookmarks consisted of Gerry Barker, Dave Laker and Bruce Acock.
Although dry it was a bit on the chilly side but outdoor bowlers are a hardy lot.
After 15 ends we made our way back into the comfort of the club house where tea and cake supplied by the ladies of the club was very welcome.
Stamford League Player lists will be available at the club house shortly
