Disability Bowls England

We are supporters of Disability Bowls England (DBE)  and enjoyed hosting a friendly fixture against them on 3rd June 2023.

Dear all

The visit by DBE to Marko has been in the diary for a while.  Saturday 3rd June, a three rink Friendly triples game was planned with several bowlers travelling a long distance to attend.

Fortunately it was a lovely sunny afternoon and the proceedings began with a ‘spider’ with the prize money shared between Jim Findlay [ Marko] and DBE funds.

Captain for DBE was Ambassador Colin Wagstaff who has also recently been selected as an England player. Liz Dyer was Marko’s Captain and while there was a bit of sharing of players the match was keenly fought. Marko players on the DBE side were soon the subject of much teasing when out bowling any home opponent.

The very close final score was 48 to 44 in the home club’s favour but this was not as important as the goodwill on all sides. MOBC has done much to encourage those less able to take up the sport and houses a number of aids to assist those with any physical difficulties.

Marko’s winning rink was Carol Findlay, Jeannie Hutton and Jonny Abbott receiving the President’s key rings, and the losing rink was Jim Findlay, Dave Cutbush and Roy Hosmer. Those not so successful on both sides received a chocolate teapot!

A splendid high tea was enjoyed after the game with delicious sandwiches and home baked cakes.

The green was much praised by our visitors as well as the warm welcome they received and the hospitality.

Our very own Colin Wagstaff had the honour of captaining a Disability Bowls England  'North' Team against a DBE 'South' team at  Royal Leamington Spa.

We're proud to announce that not only did Colin play and Captain his team, he lead them to victory and can be seen with the Margaret Smith MBE Shield.

Congratulations Colin!
