Market Overton Bowls Club

Sunday 11th August was Presidents Day and this year Mike Parkes, in the office for the second time,  chose a fancy dress theme for the bowlers.  The skull and cross bones flag was flying from the club mast and there was a pirate ship in the foyer.

Nearly 40 odd people in varying 'Pirates of the Caribbean' outfits, complete with parrots, was a sight to behold. Despite the torrential showers we were lucky enough to be able to play 18 ends and thanks to chefs Mike and Dave Laker enjoy a bbq after the game. Admittedly the weather was not helpful at this stage so this was eaten inside the club house with the chefs under a gazebo outside but it did not dampen the enthusiasm  of the people involved.

Everybody soon discovered its not easy bowling hampered by parrots on shoulders, tricorn hats and other equipment but it added to the enjoyment of the day.

On a more serious note £100 was raised for a Children's Cancer charity as unfortunately Mike's grandson has reason to be grateful to the hospital care received.

The draw for the 'Brick in the Wall' was completed and John Mitchell was the lucky winner of £50.

Todays event demonstrates what a good crowd we are lucky enough to have at Marko and long may it continue!
