Market Overton Bowls Club

At the Club AGM Thursday 22nd November there was a good attendance and the new Officers and Committee were elected.

Our new President for the forthcoming year is Mike Parkes - seen in the photo with past President Mal Croson.

The Tornadoes team who have risen as Winners of Stamford League Division 111 to Division 11 were pictured with their trophies at the AGM.

The green has proved to be fantastic throughout the year and what a great year it has been. Wall to wall sunshine!

Thanks to our greenkeeping team - Mal Croson Greenkeeper, aided by Gordon Corby and Jeannie Hutton who help with the cut during the season. Our great contractor Richard Shepherd has worked wonders.

Alas the 2018 season is over and Richard is back and the green 'put to bed'. Thanks to the volunteers who have made a splendid job of the hedge cutting and thanks to those who helped put all the outside gear away for the winter.

The evening 20th September, 16 members turned out at 6 pm for the very last game of the 2018 outdoor season. Some doubted it would happen because of the dreadful winds and heavy rain this week but the rain held off and in fact it was quite warm although the wind remained. I am not sure if the reputation and dignity of lawn bowls also remained as there were some in regular greys but an assortment of fluffy dressing gowns, black silk pyjamas, onesies [ a friesan and a union jack]  not to mention our very own wee willy winkie!  Candles were set [battery as the real ones would not stay alight] the length  of the green on two rinks making it appear in the dark rather like the run way at Cottesmore!

Much laughter and  fun followed;  the scores not really important ‘tho this did not stop the friendly rivalry. That Dave Edwards is a demon on the rink in the dark!!  The evening finished with most enjoying a fish and chip supper in the bar.

Thanks for your support at this ‘first’ for Marko – perhaps it should be a regular event?.

COME AND MEET US - you will be sure of a warm welcome whether as a bowling member or a social member who uses the bar facilities for recreation only.
